OA-Thurrock students gain career-ready skills through Fast Forward Vocational Training and TeamSport

Students at OA-Thurrock have developed practical skills and explored future career pathways through a vocational programme delivered by Fast Forward Vocational Training in partnership with TeamSport.

The programme provided students with the opportunity to work towards Level 1 and Level 2 Motor Vehicle Studies qualifications through hands-on learning in a professional workshop environment at Fast Forward Vocational Training's provision, delivered in partnership with TeamSport.

The programme was designed to do far more than equip students with a qualification. By immersing young people in a real-world vocational setting, it helped them build confidence, develop employability skills and gain valuable insight into careers within the motor vehicle industry.

Throughout the course, students learned essential workshop practices, including health and safety, hazard awareness, risk assessment, the correct use of tools and equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), fire prevention and emergency procedures.

They also developed practical mechanical skills by carrying out vehicle checks, identifying faults, understanding key vehicle components and completing basic maintenance and servicing tasks. Along the way, students strengthened important transferable skills such as attention to detail, diagnostic thinking and problem-solving – qualities that support them both in further education and future employment.

As part of the experience, students also enjoyed supervised track time at TeamSport. Linked to their effort, behaviour and engagement throughout each session, it provided an exciting opportunity to apply their learning while reinforcing the importance of commitment and professionalism.

The programme is a strong example of our commitment to providing meaningful vocational opportunities that inspire young people, broaden aspirations and prepare them for successful next steps beyond the classroom.

Through opportunities such as this, OA-Thurrock helps students discover their strengths, gain recognised qualifications and build the confidence and practical experience they need to progress into further education, training or employment.
