Remote Education

Our approach to remote education

Here at Olive AP Academy – Thurrock we will continue to provide a broad, ambitious curriculum which encourages students to recognise their personal learning journey and empowers our young people through the delivery of the knowledge and skills that they need to succeed in their next destination and beyond.

Please click here for detailed information on our remote education provision for students and parents, including how long students are expected to spend on daily work set by the school and what to do if there are problems faced in accessing digital learning. In the first instance please talk to your child’s coach about any concerns you have.

What does our remote learning curriculum look like?

Each week our students will have a combination of onsite lessons and remote education. Every student will have a weekly timetable which will give them details about start and finish times, lesson lengths, and what type of lesson it is, e.g., live or recorded etc.  All students will have at least one live lesson each day if they are at home.

When learning from home, students will be using Microsoft Teams, GCSE Pod and Class Dojo. Click here for National Online Safety guidance.

Teachers have been working hard throughout the year to develop a comprehensive approach to remote learning. Olive AP Academy – Thurrock’s remote lessons:

  • are teacher led and skills based
  • provide high-quality feedback and assessment
  • deliver a broad and balanced curriculum
  • provide clear objectives that have taken the challenges of remote learning into account.

Your child’s coach will be in regular contact with your child to make sure they have their timetable and to help with any questions or concerns they may have.

Parent and carer feedback

We are always trying to improve our offer to support parents and carers with the delivery of remote learning.

Please do let us know if you have any problems, concerns or difficulties in helping your child access their remote lessons.  We would welcome any ideas and suggestions about how our provision can be improved!
