Olive Academies is a multi-academy trust (a network of academies) approved by the Department for Education. Established in 2013, it is one of the first academy sponsors specialising in alternative provision in England. Academies are publicly funded schools.
Our aim is to transform the lives of children and young people for whom traditional teaching methods have not worked.
Olive Academies was formed by a group of educational leaders determined to create enriching opportunities for young people struggling to succeed in education. Our principal aims are to encourage students, many of whom live in deprived communities, to develop the confidence, skills and knowledge to believe that they can be successful in their own lives.
We opened our first alternative provision academy in Thurrock, Essex in 2015 and our second in the London Borough of Havering in September 2016. Our third academy opened in central Suffolk in June 2017. On 1 May 2021, we were delighted to welcome Olive AP Academy – Cambridge and Olive AP Academy – Nene Valley to the Olive family.
Olive Academies also provides support packages to mainstream primary and secondary schools for those children and young people who may be at risk of exclusion. Our outreach team has extensive experience of helping schools and local authorities effectively implement strategies to prevent permanent exclusions; helping teachers and support staff to develop inclusive practice in the mainstream classroom.
The trust is led by a group of board members who bring a wealth of experience from different professional backgrounds, such as business, finance and education. They have strategic responsibility for the development of Olive Academies’ vision and values and the implementation of these in our academies.
